Bloom is a material’s development company that makes flexible foam from algae biomass. The first major innovation to disrupt the industry in over 70 years, the brand needed a visual language that would appeal to a range of industries—from industrial insulation, to civil engineering firms, and a range of consumer goods, while reflecting the environmental values at the company’s core.
Startups move fast, and it’s important to keep up with the pace without sacrificing the quality and integrity needed to help build a brand. With this in mind, I developed illustration styles for both technical and marketing needs that followed pre-determined design systems, so that work could be quickly adapted and produced in accordance with the fast turn-around times.
As design director, I was responsible for all marketing strategy and assets beyond design: From developing customer communications, go-to-market strategy, public relations, trade show management, and more. I designed the website, created wireframes, managed social media, wrote copy, and got Bloom published in notable publications such as Fast Company, The Smithsonian Magazine, The San Diego Business Journal, and more.
